Dresden
This Easter tour visits historic Dresden, Eisenach and Leipzig, all important centres in the life of Richard Wagner. In Dresden, enjoy a production of Verdi’s Otello at the magnificent Semperoper. Continuing on to charming Leipzig, we enjoy a performance of Parsifal at the Opera. The tour ends in Eisenach where we attend the annual semi-staged production of Tannhäuser, performed at UNESCO World Heritage site Wartburg Castle, situated above the town in the Thüringian forest.

Itinerary
Wed 20 Apr Afternoon arrival in Dresden, and check in at the 4-star Hilton Hotel, located in the heart of the Old Town, next to the Frauenkirche. Welcome dinner in a local restaurant.

Thu 21 Apr Join your guide for a walking tour of Dresden’s Old Town, rebuilt since 1945. We see the Theatre Square, the Zwinger Palace and the Royal Palace amongst other sites of note. Afternoon at leisure. Transfer by foot to the evening performance at the Semperoper.

Fri 22 Apr Morning at leisure for your choice of activity in Dresden. After an independent early lunch we set off for Leipzig, stopping on the way in Graupa to visit the Wagner Museum, the only former home of the composer in Eastern Germany which is open to the public. We continue to Leipzig to check in at the 4-star Best Western Premier Victor’s Residenz-Hotel, within walking distance of the Opera house. Early evening performance at the Opera.

Sat 23 Apr This morning we take a guided walking tour of Leipzig city centre, visiting the Market Square and Old City Hall, the famous St Thomas’ and St Nicholas’ Churches, and much more. After an independent lunch we then transfer to Eisenach, in the wooded countryside of Thüringia. Check in at the 4-star Steigenberger Hotel Thüringer Hof, one of the oldest buildings in the historic Lutheran town. Evening at leisure.

Sun 24 Apr Today the morning is free to explore Eisenach, which boasts a wealth of museums and notable sites, including Bach’s House, Luther’s House and the market square. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. The early afternoon is at leisure before your guided tour of Wartburg Castle, the setting for Wagner’s Tannhäuser. Early evening performance in the festival hall at the Castle.

Mon 25 Apr Morning at leisure. Transfer to Dresden airport for your homeward flight.
